editorial PSA

Fellow commie hippie peacenik scum: when complaining about heavily-armed police raids to silence political protest, please don't say "semiautomatic weapons"; you're embarrassing us all. "Semiautomatic" means you get one bullet per trigger pull, which is how typical handguns work. Saying it like it's a special scary thing makes us all look like clueless alarmists.

The weapons you're objecting to are properly called submachine guns and assault rifles. These are classified as machine guns under the National Firearms Act, but this usage is specific to US law, as is the term "assault weapon"; and the term "automatic weapon" is overly broad.
