history does not record...

Fuck.
I've had an unusually bad day, physically and emotionally.

I'm dizzy, I'm weak, I don't feel like eating, and I'm so tired. And I feel this enormous sense of dread and loss that pervades my exhausted, thought-ridden brain.

I don't want to go to bed. I don't want to have more horrible dreams like last nite. I want to pretend I don't know most of my friends. I want everything to go away.

*deep sigh*

If I just keep going, it'll pass, right? This hell always passes. But it burns indescribably first.

PSA:

Over on [info]lj_election_en you can find the [self]nominations of those who would like to run for the LJ Advisory Board. 100 comments supporting a nomination are required in order to get on the 'ballot.'

A bunch of those self nominations seem to be running on popularity alone, and then a bunch of others seem to be treating it mostly as a joke.

I've not yet gone through all the nominations there, but so far I've found a fair number who a) seem like good candidates and b) are nowhere near 100 comments, which is why I'm going to try to spend some more time tomorrow finding candidates worth supporting.

Why Hillary is staying in the race...
Dear all,
I've found one reason why Hillary is staying the race. Electoral-Vote.com maintains the results of state-by-state polls.

When Obama goes against McCain, Obama gets 237 electoral votes, and McCain gets 290 votes.

When Clinton goes against McCain, Clinton gets 280 electoral votes, and McCain gets 241 votes.

This is just one collection of polls; other collections may have different results.

Take care, all.

UPDATE: [info]ytterbius points out that this data has been posted in politicsforum, as well as the rebuttal: polls this far from the election have little relation to how people will vote in November.

proof writing
Writing mathematical proofs is a difficult, interesting art, and I'd love to look at the kinds of miswrites, fixes, rewrites people make.

The camera-ready copy is due in about 19 hours.

Here's the most important page:

Any suggestions?

Is it easy to make LaTeX render squares instead of "QED"?

Busy day at work today -- we put in three culverts, including a big 3' culvert up at the end of the lake where the water always runs over the road. We sincerely hope that the 3' culvert will prevent most of the road-overtopping events in that region.

It's a White Tailed Kite
The markings look like a gull, the wings don't and it seems to fly more like raptor than a gull.

The beak is what? eagle?

I'm afraid all I had was my 28-200, so the pictures aren't great quality:

Edit: I've been told that it's a kite. I've seen them hovering over the parking lot across the street:
